Speech, Thought or Shout: Which Bubble to Use

The shape of a bubble tells the reader how to hear the words.

Speech bubble

A smooth oval with a pointed tail. Use it for ordinary talking. It is the default for most memes.

Thought bubble

A cloud with small circles trailing to the head. Use it for what a character is thinking but not saying, which suits cats well because they are always judging you quietly.

Shout bubble

A jagged burst. Use it for yelling, surprise or big reactions, and keep the text to a word or two.

Mixing them

A calm speech bubble next to a thought bubble that says the opposite is a classic joke format. Try it on the meme maker.
